TRAX | Balance Weight Technology

Products | Steel Weights for Steel Wheels

Why use steel as a material for balance weights?

bulletmore environmental - easier to recycle than zinc

bulletlonger term price stability (steel is not a traded commodity)

bulletssteel is the most commonly used material in vehicle production

bulletsteel is 20% more dense than zinc alloy

Car companies use steel balance weights

Steel balance weights are used almost exclusively by car manufacturers in the USA (since 2009) with Japan using steel since 1999. Steel was preferred over zinc and composite materials as it is considered the most suitable lead-free material available when considering recyclability, ecology (groundwater), density and cost. Steel (or iron) adhesive weights are used by Ford, Volvo, Land Rover, Renault, Honda, & Toyota.

TRAX-LOCK™ is an advanced method of attaching a clip to a weight body. Developed by Trax® , this solution enables a high speed automated assembly process ensuring consistent weight body and clip attachment.

The clip “gap” (which controls the weight retention) can be controlled more accurately than traditional weights as it does not rely on a 2 piece construction -
eg a steel clip and a die-cast zinc body.
